In the summer of 1973, between his two years at Cornell University, Bill
started his professional acting career by playing Hamlet at the Colorado
Shakespeare Festival. "It was heaven. Playing one of the greatest
roles ever written and getting paid for it was a fabulous revelation. I
had a wonderful time. At one point I remember trading four tickets to my
Hamlet for a pair of Earth Shoes. This was heady stuff!"
After finishing his MFA at Cornell
the journey began in earnest. The first job was with the Florida Studio
Theatre. The tiny company toured high schools and prisons all over the
south with a production of Samuel Beckett's End Game. After a
season of that, Bill traveled north and found work at the Street Theatre
in Boston. (more)
